Los Pirineos
the mostly true memoirs of Esperancita Gómez
What is Los Pirineos?
Literally (Los Pee-ree-nay-os) means The Pyranees, but for my family it meant a ranch high in the Andes, and for our heroine, Esperancita Los Pirineos meant freedom.
Los Pirineos, the mostly true memoirs of Esperancita Gomez, is a fictionalized graphic memoir chronicling a young girl’s upbringing in and eventual exile from Colombia told through the lens of childhood imagination. Researched on location in Colombia with the help of a grant from the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture (NALAC), and featuring Sara Woolley’s award winning illustrations and story and by Leila Gomez Woolley, Los Pirineos is at once deeply personal while giving voice to a common childhood immigrant experience.

Beautiful work Sara – I can’t wait to see more! Hernan.
Gorgeous… Absolutely love it… Reminds me of The Books of Magic, or Stardust, of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. There’s something very appealing about Victorian-esque comic art.
Wow! Thank you so much Simon! What a complement! I LOVE Startdust and the League of extraordinary gentlemen… please keep checking back… more up very soon!
